Lasagna is a labor of love and oh how I love it! A good lasagna is a warm hug on a cold night, a kiss goodnight from a loved one, a back rub when you are feeling blue. It combines the best parts of Italian cooking and melds it into one amazing dish. I probably don’t need to tell you though, you already know.
Ingredients for the sauce
- 1.5 lbs ground turkey or ground beef
- 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- ½ yellow onion diced
- 5 heads garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 1 sprig rosemary
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Other Ingredients
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese
- Lasagna noodles
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
To Make
Make the sauce first. Brown the meat. Add onions and garlic and cook until slightly translucent. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes to 3 hours.
Boil the lasagna noodles (even if they are no boil, trust me) until they are al dente. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Mix the parmesan with ricotta cheese.
Build the lasagna in a baking tray. Layer pasta sauce on the bottom with mozzarella above. Then the first layer of lasagna noodle.
Then from there layer ricotta cheese, sauce, then mozzarella. Top with lasagna noodle. Repeat this until the baking dish is nearly full. The top layer will be lasagna noodle then mozzarella.
Bake for 30 minutes or until top is bubbling. EAT!
