My family has been obsessed with smoothies recently. It’s a great way to pack in a ton of fruits into a snack and all the health benefits that come with that. And an excellent source of happiness. My wife likes to sneak some greens into her smoothies, adding in spinach or peas. But I’m more of a traditionalist. Whatever that means. I like straight up fruit. With fruit juice. Or even a sorbet if I’m feeling a little crazy.

We freeze fruit that is getting old and maybe not as exciting to eat fresh. Strawberries not looking perfect? Wash them, cut off the top, put them in a freezer bag and throw them in the freezer. Bananas looking brown? Peel that baby and throw it in the freezer. You get the idea. For the mango you can do the same. Or you can buy it frozen from the store. Frozen strawberries are also an easy store fine. An unfrozen fruit will work if you don’t have any in the freezer, but you’ll want to add ice.

Without further ado, let’s make a smoothie!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz orange juice
  • 1 frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup strawberry ice cream (optional)

To Make

Place everything in a blender and blend on high until everything is totally blended and smooth.

Note: You can substitute fruit and fruit juicing at your pleasure. And if the smoothie is not blending add a little bit more juice slowly, or push down the side with a spatula, taking care not to lend the spatula.
