New WIC Card with QR code simplifies shopping for fresh produce at local farmers’ markets.

Families in San Bernardino County who participate in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program can now enjoy a faster, simpler way to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at local farmers’ markets. The program’s newly updated WIC Card features a quick response (QR) code that makes checkout easier for both shoppers and farmers. With this added convenience, participants can more easily incorporate fresh produce into their meals while supporting local agriculture.

The San Bernardino County WIC program is a nutritional assistance program that provides healthy foods, nutrition education, lactation support and referrals to healthcare and community services. WIC participants receive a monthly Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, which varies by category:

  • $26 for children aged 1-5
  • $47 for pregnant and postpartum individuals
  • $52 for people who are breastfeeding
  • $78 for individuals breastfeeding more than one infant

Benefits are automatically loaded onto the WIC Card, and with the farmers’ market QR code now featured on the card, WIC participants can find a WIC authorized farmers’ market by using the location finder on MyFamily.WIC.ca.gov or through the California WIC App (available on Android Google Play and Apple App Store). At checkout, the vendor simply scans the QR code to process the transaction.

Participants interested in obtaining the new WIC Card can call 800-472-2321 or visit wic.sbcounty.govfor more information.
