For many youth, summer is a time of adventure, growth and new experiences. However, for youth in foster care, who often face uncertainty and instability, access to enriching summer activities can be limited. To help bridge this gap, San Bernardino County Children and Family Services (CFS) recently hosted two Youth Engagement and Enrichment Program (YEEP) kickoff events, providing youth in foster care with access to exciting summer camp opportunities.

Held in both Victorville and San Bernardino, the events welcomed foster youth and their resource families for an afternoon filled with fun activities, games, raffles, a photo booth and food trucks. More importantly, the events connected youth with various summer camps tailored to their interests and developmental needs, offering them an opportunity to build friendships, develop life skills, and have fun in a supportive environment. The camps in attendance focused on everything from outdoor adventures to creative arts and leadership development.

“For youth in foster care, summer camp can be a turning point, a place where they feel seen, supported, and allowed to be themselves,” said CFS Director Jeany Glasgow. “We strive to provide opportunities that nurture our youth’s growth while fostering a strong sense of belonging.”

CFS is committed to ensuring that every youth in foster care in San Bernardino County has access to these life-changing opportunities. YEEP is a year-round program for San Bernardino County foster youth aged 8-17, designed to provide an opportunity to explore, grow and have fun through amazing enrichment activities. If you know a youth in foster care who could benefit from the YEEP program, please contact their social worker.
